Unlike the rest of the US it has been in the doldrums since 2001 as the dot com and telecommunications busts have really affected the Denver metro area. Latest economic statistics, however, show that the local economy is almost back up to the boom years of the late nineties and 2000. Employment is up, available jobs are up and commercial estate vacancies are down. As the local economy picks up, it is anticipated that the Denver real estate market will follow. Unlike many other regions in the last few years, the Denver metro area has seen very modest house price growth of around 3%. As coastal communities have become unaffordable for the vast majority of the population, today Denver is seen to be affordable and undervalued. So combine the real estate slowdown (or pullback) the rest of the US is anticipating and that there are a lot of families who cant afford to buy or upgrade in their existing communities with the economic growth forecast for the Denver area, you can see how Denver offers a great relocation opportunity for many families. Relocating to Denver can be a great option for families. Indeed history tells us that those in California, the North East, Texas, Illinois and Minnesota will relocate to Denver as their own economies or housing markets hit rocky patches. They are attracted to Colorado by the great lifestyle, weather and job opportunities the Denver metro area offers. Lake Ave., Wilmette, Illinois, USA| Wilmette, Illinois, USA| Winnetka, Illinois, USA Editorial Reviews Amazon.com Now and forever a favorite among kids, this 1990 comedy written by John Hughes ( The Breakfast Club ) and directed by Chris Columbus ( Mrs. Doubtfire ) ushered Macaulay Culkin onto the screen as a troubled 8-year-old who doesn't comfortably mesh with his large family. He's forced to grow a little after being accidentally left behind when his folks and siblings fly off to Paris. A good-looking boy, Culkin lights up the screen during several funny sequences, the most famous of which finds him screaming for joy when he realizes he's unsupervised in his own house. A bit wooden with dialogue, the then-little star's voice could grate on the nerves (especially in long, wise-child passages of pure bromide), but he unquestionably carries the film. Billie Bird and John Candy show up as two of the interesting strangers Culkin's character meets. Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern are entertainingly cartoonish as thieves, but the ensuing violence once the little hero decides to keep them out of his house is over-the-top. --Tom Keogh Customers who viewed this DVD also viewed Home Alone 3 DVD ~ Alex D. In my view, these two burglars make it the great comedy that it is. There expressiveness in being duped by the redhead protecting his family home is creative and simply good comedy to enjoy. The neighbor with the shovel is another outstanding character that pops up in key spots in the plotline. Candy is so-so as the polka king. The mother played by O'Hara is authentic too in her concern, and the rest are just support cast in this. The plot is possible due to the setup of the busy family preparing for the trip with all the chaos and Kevin being somewhat of a sore-thumb in all this. The results are a howl! Enjoy watching this periodically over the years. Too my way of thinking, this makes a movie truly great, its ability to have lasting power. This might be one of those that endures the fads and all that make many flicks ok, but would one buy them or rent them or watch them again? Likely not. But this, this one I've did all three, finally purchasing a copy for our own collection. Was this review helpful to you? Shirley "Laurie's Boomer Views" (fountain valley, ca United States) - See all my reviews This review refers to the VHS(20th Cent Fox) edition... Second grader Kevin McCalister(Macaulay Culkin) is having a REALLY bad day. His family(including cousins, Aunt and Uncle) is getting ready to leave on a Christmas vacation to Paris. There's lots of activity, he is the youngest. He feel's picked on(and he is),and brushed aside. He has to actually do things for himself, unheard of in his 8 yr old world. His older brother scares him with stories of the neighbor being "The Shovel Murderer". He wishes they would all "JUST GO AWAY". The next morning he awakes to discover his wish came true. Jubilant he immediatly preceeds to do all the things he's not allowed to. Meanwhile, halfway across "The Pond", to Paris, his parents make the grim discovery that they have accidentally left him behind. Panic sets in! With the feeling of worry and guilt only known to parents, his mom(Catherine O'Hara) makes a hasty retreat back to the states, hitting road blocks all the way. Kevin settles in to life alone, waivering between being a kid and the responiblities of the household chores.Lurking around his house though, are two bumbling cat burglers(Joe Pesci/Daniel Stern).Kevin must protect his domain. He goes about setting his plan into motion, using whatever available means to thwart the bad guys.He also gets a little help from a surprise source. What follows is very funny, kind of three stooges action, as the burglers fall into every trap he sets for them. Kevin learns several lessons in his time alone. One is that he really loves his family, that he can take care of himself, and not to judge others. The music by John Williams, including lots of seasonal classics, will leave you singing Christmas songs, whatever time of year you watch it. Directed By Chris Columbus who really makes you root for the good guys. The supporting cast includes,John Heard, Roberts Blossom, and Hilary Wolfe.Look for the wonderful John Candy as "The Polka King". "Home Alone" will have you laughing throughout. It is a funny, sometimes poignant story, that will be enjoyed year after year by the whole family. There are 2 sequels, the first has most of the same cast returning to do it again, this time in New York City! The VHS has a very good picture. It is in Dolby Surround Stereo,(nice for the soundtrack). Have fun...........Laurie Was this review helpful to you? Never knew Christmas could be this fun! , December 26, 2005 Reviewer: Kirs Mabitad "AnGeLkirs" (Hong Kong) - See all my reviews First of all, the main thing about this movie is the irresponsibility of the parents. It angered me to know how they could just forget about their son like that. Overall, I thought McCauly Culkin was really great. He acted very naturally for a 9-year-old boy. The whole plot is fun for all ages. The music was very nice too. It gives you a christmas feel but at the same time, it makes you feel the cunningness of Kevin. Yes the film is funny and it's a fun family film for the whole family but it's not a great film. Maybe I dont find it great becouse I've seen it so maney times and i dont find the traps funny anymore(I liekd the traps in the sequal better). The story is un beievale as a boy is left home alone by mistake during christmas and he sets the house full of traps to catch 2 bumbling robbers. Culkien is great and Stern and Pesi are funny. Editorial Rating: Recommended The Scene Dark-wood accents, a Western motif and a large fireplace decorate the bustling, sprawling restaurant. Decibel levels manage to remain low enough for conversation. Service can be inconsistent, despite a large staff. The Food Texas onion strings features tangy and spicy pale-pink dipping sauce combining liquid smoke, mayonnaise and barbecue sauce. The average smoked sirloin nachos are served with generous amounts of refreshing pico de gallo and jalapenos. The succulent signature pepper-smoked sirloin lives up to its reputation with well-absorbed flavor. A side of chili, however, can arrive bland and lukewarm, while undercooked, bitter spinach is smothered in butter. Two eight-ounce mesquite-grilled pork chops are spicy-sweet with a peach glaze coating the tender meat exquisitely. The accompanying sweet mashed potatoes are delightfully creamy. Jack Daniel's pie is strong, chunky and topped with vanilla ice cream. Editorial content is independent of paid advertisers. Any expenses are paid for by Citysearch. Can I give it a negative star? , June 23, 2005 Reviewer: PBNTOAU "pbntoau" (Illinois)- See all my reviews I've been managing rental property for about 15 years, starting with 2 buildings and 10 units at the beginning and now with 25 units in 5 buildings, containing a mix from studios and 1-bedrooms up to 4-bedroom apartments. I recently decided to update from a very old version of Quicken, and since they had this program specifically for rental properties, I thought I'd found a perfect match. I couldn't have been more wrong. You would think that a company that has made accounting software for this long would understand the most basic needs, like a running total alongside each transaction (which even my 7-year old edition of Quicken had). Nope. There is only a single running total. Make a mistake, and it is virtually impossible to backtrack and find. How about a field for your check number, the singular way to identify your checks/transactions? It doesn't have one. One of the 8 or so automatic fields they do give you is unit number. Problem is, it's a simple numeric assignment based on the number of units you input when you create each building's account, and it can't be altered. Apartments lettered instead of numbered, numbered in partial sequence, alpha-numeric, by floors, cardinal direction, etc? Tough luck. These are just a few of the problems or basic design flaws I've come across. It took several painstaking hours to transfer the entries from my old software and books into this new software, and now I'm stuck until I either find the time to transfer the data to something I trust, or I continue to use this program until the end of the year. It's half baked, and that's putting it lightly. I wouldn't recommend it for even the most entry-level rental property owners or managers. I can't imagine a big firm using it. Regular quicken costs half as much (though even that's getting horrible reviews on Amazon). The previous reviewer said it's no better than a simple excel spread sheet. I'd go further and say it's worse. Save your time and money, and just create a simple excel file. Was this review helpful to you? Uyttebroek "Disgusted with Intuit" - See all my reviews I bought the software about a month ago. Everything was working fine until a prompt for an update came across. The update process removed the aplication from my computer. Attempts to re-install the product were fruitless. The program is now worthless. Attempts to get a response from Intuit were also fruitless. Last time I buy an Intuit product and my advise is for everyone not to buy this worthless product and any other Intuit product. It does not integrate with Quicken, Quickbooks, or Excel. It does allow you to export to TurboTax, but that's the extent of integration. QRPM is designed to replace paper-based systems, such as ledgers, envelopes, scratch paper, and checklists. This is not a full-fledged accounting software, so if you are looking for robust bookkeeping features (online banking downloads, bill payments, cost basis accounting), you are better off spending a few hours to customize Quicken or Quickbooks. Otherwise, for what QRPM does, it does well. In Version 2 you can add up to 100 properties and up to 100 units per property. You can name your units anything you want (such as "24A," or "Garage"). QRPM is designed to track rents and basic expenses. You can quickly see which tenants have paid, who hasn't paid, who has paid late, and which leases are expiring. QRPM is great at tracking this basic information. For anything more advanced, you'll want to develop customized categories (in Quicken) or accounts (in Quickbooks) along with customized reports to get a quick overview of your rental properties. Lundin - See all my reviews This Rental Property Manager is like having one register for each property to track credits and debits. Some reports. Thats it. Using the regular Quicken Basic, with a Banking account and a Property/Asset account, works better and gives you a way to compare operating expenses, income, mortgage/loan information, and property value. Since its scope is limited, having shorter lists of categories and tax schedules and lines to worry about than in the regular Quicken software, but the limited scope and higher cost for a focused subset of Quicken Basic? Not so useful. Was this review helpful to you? ( Report this ) See all 5 customer reviews... So You'd Like To... We look at the alternatives. By Sarah Jagger How to sell your home alone For most people in the UK, selling your home means using an estate agent. An agent will advertise your property and introduce potential buyers but charge you 2% of the sale price as commission, plus VAT at 17.5%. Or if you use more than one agent, you will be charged up to 3.5% commission plus VAT by whichever agent introduces the buyer. So on a sale price of £100,000, this would mean estate agents’ commission of more than £3,500 before you take into account solicitors fees and removal charges. You could, of course, simply add that cost into your asking price – but in a slow market that could mean you have a long wait for a buyer, or price yourself out of the market altogether. There are some alternatives though, and one in twenty vendors are now taking the DIY route which could speed up the process and save you on average £4,500 which means you can afford to get the decorators in at your new home. next About C4 | Jobs | Text Only | Access Advice | Contact Us | Terms and Conditions | Privacy | Help | Online Ad Sales
