With the active participation of the CU Real Estate Council, the program offers coursework, internships, networking and job placement assistance. The program began with the development of the CU Real Estate Council in 1990. This group of industry professionals (many of whom are CU alumni) desired a stronger relationship with CU. In 1996, the CU Real Estate Center was formed with the assistance of the Council, University of Colorado Leeds School of Business, and the University of Colorado Foundation. The Center is involved in many activities that impact the University and the community at large. Using the Real Estate License Status Inquiry Screen If you enter a name (and, optionally, the city), click on the find button to advance to an index of licensees who satisfy your search criteria. The license identification number, name, license type and city as contained in the mailing address of record, are displayed in the index. This information is provided to help you select the license record you are seeking. If you click on the license I.D. number from the name index or if you use the license I.D. search from the first screen, you will migrate to the final screen that displays the public information available for that licensee such as the license expiration date, status, salesperson associates, office addresses and corporate affiliations. The information presented reflects the license records of the DRE at the time of your inquiry; however, it will not reflect pending updates which are being processed by the Department. Helpful Hints Mark the search page with a "bookmark" or "favorite" indicator so that you can initiate search requests from your own menu. Review the search tips above, especially when you receive a "no record" reply. Review the supplemental explanations of status and comment descriptions available on the public information page. Out-of-Date License Information If your license record reflects information which is no longer current (wrong address, employing broker, etc.), you can use the eLicensing online system to update your license record immediately. Or, you may notify the DRE using the appropriate change request form: Salesperson Change Application ( RE 214 ) Broker Change Application ( RE 204 ) Corporation Change Application ( RE 204A ) Prior to submitting your change application, please review Tips for a Smooth Licensing Transaction . Depending on the change being requested, the approximate processing time frame for paper applications is 4 to 6 weeks. Actions Against Unlicensed Persons The Department publishes monthly a list of names of persons and businesses which have been found to have been conducting real estate activities without a license. Less hassle and frustration: When selling a home by owner, you don't have to leave the house because a Real Estate Agent wants to show it, or clean it every morning before leaving "just in case". A well-maintained, fairly priced home can virtually sell itself; your role is to simply provide additional information. Sell for a price on your terms; You're in control: Nobody is going to tell you what to sell for. You can advertise where and how you want to (not sit by in frustration because "they're not doing enough"), schedule showings when it's convenient for you, talk directly with prospective home buyers at your leisure, even take your home off the market for awhile if you can't find the right house for you. You aren't obligated to a 3, 6, or 12 month contract... you make your own rules. More $$$ in your pocket: Calculate 6-7% of what you think your house is worth, then ask yourself: is it worth paying this much to have someone else show my property, act as a go-between to negotiate the sale and coordinate the home's closing schedules with the lender, lawyer or titles company (dependent upon your area of the country). Sell your home fast: If you list your home with a real estate agent, you'll probably inflate the house's asking price to cover the cost of the commission. Two to four months later you'll come to the painful realization that no one is going to buy your home at that price, and you'll likely end up reducing the price (or accepting an offer) equal to the original amount you would have asked if selling on your own. Do it right the first time, and avoid taking the loss. Less uncertainty: Because you meet the prospective home buyers, you have a much better idea how interested people are, what they like about the house, how serious they are about buying and what their timeframe and situation is. The direct feedback is easier to live with than wondering how things are going, or worse, why no one has made an offer yet. It's easy: If you can sell your own car, you can sell your own home... it's that simple" said one of our home sellers.
