In the review I posted for the last Mark Knopfler CD, I defended the lower prominence of lead guitar, based on the fact that this is 20-something years later than "Sultans of Swing", and an artist grows, as they should. I tried to apply this same standard to this Clapton album, but it just doesn't work for me. Knopfler might have cut back on the guitar gymnastics, but the tone and subject matter of the songs remain that same Knopfler that made me buy all of those albums. A happy Clapton is not Clapton. I'm glad his life is going well, but this also might prove that art comes from suffering. I am not a casual fan. I have every Clapton release (some on old vinyl), and tracked every vintage of his career. I can throw an old disc on that I have heard a thousand times, and experience it like new every time. I'm afraid "Back Home" will soon be relegated to the back of my CD shelf next to the dusty Pilgrim and Reptile discs. Thanks for the decades of great music Eric, but it looks like the days of buying every new album sight unseen has reached the end. I wanted to like this disc, I really did. 3 stars because this is technically a fine recording. Of the twelve songs, Clapton has writing credits for five, including the first single "Revolution", a reggae-based song reminiscent of "I Shot the Sheriff", except unlike the latter, this one is a somewhat flat, unexciting track. Boosted by guest appearances, the album mixes reggae, R&B, pop and country. Contributors include George Harrison, who wrote "Love Comes to Everyone"; The Spinners' "Love Don't Love Nobody"; "I'm Going Left" from Stevie Wonder and Syreeta Wright; plus Vince Gill, Steve Winwood and John Mayer among others. Most of the songs can be classified as "easy listening" and can evoke the occasional head bob and hum, but they're all relatively standard songs, with nothing really worth shouting about. The majority of the cuts are lilting Top-40ish sounding ditties about love and kids and general non-offensive subjects. The few blues sounding cuts have huge organ runs and what sounds like an entire choir backing his vocals. Orchestrated Blues? C'mon. There will probably huge numbers of fans who like this album, but they are NOT Eric Clapton fans. This is purely a generic "hit" album. I am not saying EC should not do happy songs, but I did not buy the CD for this "kinder, gentler" music. I personally want raw guitar and damnable blues. He is too talented for this pop album. It's an easy-listening/bluesy album about love, introspection ("Back Home" comes to mind), family, and belonging. I don't understand why people only listen to just Eric Clapton's guitar and not his vocal. The singer's vocal, as well as his/her instrument, is what sets the mood for the song. Just like that saying in "Death of a Salesman," it's not "what you say." It's how you say it. And here, Eric Clapton says it well. He's happy, he's living life to its fullest, and he wants his audience to know it. A person doesn't always have to be depressed in order to make good music. Anyhow point is this album may not be his classic heavy blues and whiskeyed downtime kind of thing, but for some jack ass to say that a sad clapton is not clapton annoys me enough to waste my damn time writing this stupid review when I could be playing the git fiddle I was juts and will be in just a second laying on my lap. That jackass may not be a casual eric clapton fan but he probably doesn't play guitar otherwise he would know how to critique a guitarist singer, without making himself look like a fool, and yes jackass too. Land Title keeps an accurate accounting of funds disbursed from the loan. Land Title employs its own professional inspectors to provide the highest quality inspections at no additional cost to you. Land Title collects Mechanic's Lien waivers throughout the project from each subcontractor, freeing up your time for other priorities. Land Title charges one flat fee for residential properties, which includes the inspection report, the Mechanic's Lien Endorsement, disbursement processing, and all delivery fees. A single fee means you can accurately budget for all your upcoming projects. Borrowers are included in the disbursement agreement, so no one is left out of the loop. Land Title maintains your escrow instructions. Land Title disburses on commercial projects and single family residences. Loans disbursed generally range from $200,000 to $50,000,000. However, we can disburse on loans of any amount. The Process: The construction Loan Disbursement process begins when the general contractor submits a Draw Request to Land Title. Land Title can provide a form upon request. However, your form, a computerized form, or an AIA form are all generally acceptable. The Draw Request includes the names and addresses of payees and the amounts to be paid. All invoices to be paid should be attached. The contractor presents the Draw Request to the owner and obtains the owner's approval and signature. Land Title conducts the Inspections and prepares a Construction Progress Report affirming that the work and materials are in place and estimates the overall percentage of completion. Land Title conducts a title search for Mechanic's Liens. Land Title forwards to the lender the Draw Request, together with the title search for Mechanic's Liens. While the draw is pending lender approval, Land Title cuts all checks, obtains W-9 tax identification numbers, prepares the check register, and is ready to disburse as soon as the lender's funds are deposited into Land Title's account. Items of construction interest, overhead and profit, and soft costs can be paid if they are in accord with the lender's policy. The lender and the borrower must both approve these payments in writing. When the lender approves the draw and funds are received, Land Title mails the already-prepared checks directly to the contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, and vendors as directed. Land Title's disbursement checks have a lien waiver imprinted on the face of the check. The lien waiver states the amount, the ownership, and the address, and the check stub gives the description of invoices or work being paid. The lien waiver must be signed separately and apart from the check endorsement. If the payee fails to sign the lien waiver, the check will not clear the bank. After Land Title has prepared and disbursed checks directly to all subcontractors and suppliers, Land Title will furnish a check register--listing all checks by check numbers, person(s) paid, and the amounts paid--to the contractor after each draw, and to the borrower and lender upon request. Land Title can furnish a check register from day one to any point in the construction. Land Title can also furnish a register for all payments to any individual payee at any time during or at the end of construction. Skilled and educated working Americans had jobs providing numerous fringe benefits, paid vacations and pensions. In addition, automobiles were becoming commonplace for the wealthy and middle class allowing cross country travel. This good fortune set the stage for the Florida real estate bubble . Starting in 1920, many Americans became enamored by the materialistic and prosperous lifestyle of the time. During this time, the stock market was moving forward at an extremely fast pace. Many investors were becoming quite wealthy. Florida became a hot spot for these newly rich people, who didn’t enjoy the cold. Many whole families took vacations to Florida. It was at this point that tourism started booming and land prices were skyrocketing. Many astute investors took notice and started buying Florida real estate. The population in Florida was growing exponentially and housing couldn’t meet the demand. Florida became the “playground of the rich and famous”. Illegal casinos and drinking parlors became widespread in Miami. At this point, almost anybody could invest in Florida, even without much money. Credit was plentiful and soon everybody in Florida was either a real estate investor or a real estate agent. In 1922, the Miami Herald became the heaviest newspaper in the world as a result of its humongous real estate advertisements. People in the North heard about the real estate prices “doubling and tripling”, causing a snowball effect. Capital was rapidly pumped into the real estate market. Whole golf communities were developed, such as Temple Terrace. Resorts and retirement communities were developed almost overnight. Mansions were sprawling in every area, as were swimming pools. As always, waterfront property was the most desirable. Florida was seen as a veritable Utopia. Real estate prices quadrupled in less than one year. An elderly man invested $1,700 in property and by 1925 the property was worth over $300,000! It seemed you could do no wrong by just buying any property in Florida and become a millionaire. By 1925, real estate prices had become so exorbitant that buying land wasn’t affordable any longer. New investors failed to arrive and old investors started to sell. Panic arrived, as it always does, and the real estate market crashed. Prices kept moving downwards as heavily indebted investors tried to sell to avoid bankruptcy . In most cases, no buyers arrived, and the investors were bankrupt from the enormous mortgages. To make matters even worse, a highly destructive hurricane ravaged South Florida in September 1926. The 125 mile an hour winds eventually turned Palm Beach County into swamp lands. After the storm, a huge tidal wave crashed upon the towns of Belle Glade and Moore Haven. Due to these horrible turn of events, over 13,000 homes were destroyed and 415 people died. Additionally, the arrival of the Mediterranean fruit fly obliterated the large citrus industry. It took years for Florida to fully recover, even through the highly prosperous time from 1925 to 1929. Florida was barely affected in the stock market crash of 1929 and the Great Depression , because of its poor financial state from the start. Market crashes always occur in the same manner. Regardless of the market, the same simple psychological underpinnings are always at work. People who are caught up in a bubble never look back for historical examples.
