Additionally, there is a helpful summary of the different regions, their attractions and shortfalls and a good explanation of the considerations for running costs for a house in France. Highly recommended. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title . The guide and map illustrations to the different regions are clear and the information given exactly what is needed. One of the best guides to understanding living in France that I have read and I would definitely recommend it --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title . Was this review helpful to you? 108 of 108 people found the following review helpful: PRACTICAL AND COMPREHENSIVE , July 15, 2003 Reviewer: rbandrews from FRANCE Brilliant. Unlike other books on this subject the book is both thorough and easy to read. The layout is good, and information is easy to locate. More importantly it provides practical guidance and information in areas where other books are lacking. We have lived in France for a year now, and we wished we had had this book when we arrived. All the books we had read advised us to rent before buying, but none of them really explained what to do. This book has a great chapter explaining tenant's rights and telling us how to protect ourselves when we come to leave. What I like also is the information on how to settle, both the details about what is available for Brits in France, and how to settle within the French community - the author has clearly lived in France for some time. Anyone wanting to buy in France should take a look at the details about the many areas affected by flooding and termites, not to mention the subsidence in Normandy. We had not realised that one of the houses we were looking atis in fact in a risk area. This book is a must. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title . News Articles GE/Arden Deal Caps Big M&A Year Dec 28, 2005 3:32 AM When General Electric agreed to buy office real estate investment trust (REIT) Arden Realty last Thursday, the $3.2 billion deal capped a heady year for REIT mergers. Not only is the southern California-based office landlord the eighth publicly-traded REIT to change hands this year in roughly $20 billion worth of deals, but its also further evidence that institutional capital still has a voracious appetite for real estate. And December proved to be an especially active month for REIT mergers: Centerpoint Properties Trust was sold to a joint venture earlier this month for $2.4 billion.... Especially useful are sections on goal-setting, negotiating, dealing with banks, and secondary financing. The book is less useful for development professionals dealing with larger developments such as office buildings, apartment communities, etc, as it omits extended discussion of the institutional players. Both individuals and development professionals will find Zuckerman, Real Estate Investment and Acquisition Workbook a useful adjunct, with development professionals perhaps more intested in Brueggeman & Fisher, Real Estate Finance and Investments than this offering. Daily (Fort Worth, Tx United States) - See all my reviews Cummings is one of my favorite R.E. authors. He is very thorough. This one has chapters on conventional and creative financing, tax exchanges, land development, discounting mortgages, sale-leasebacks, how to get started and even dealing with foreclosure. Table of contents is very thorough and makes it very easy to go to the exact page you want to to find specific information. He is good with the numbers and doesnt leave much to the imagination like many authors do. I recommend anything by this author. Was this review helpful to you? Bits and pieces on the subject have previously taught by various gurus, but this book covers ALL of them. If every Realtor and investor read this, we would all be better off. This one tends towards overkill with many, many examples but other readers may want that more than I did. There are one or two strategy recommendations I disagree with rather heartily, but it's clear, pretty much accurate, and very readable. The no-nonsense writing reminds me a bit of T. Dallow or J. Reed, both also recommended. Was this review helpful to you? Home Equity Line of Credit ("HELOC") or Home Equity Loan A home equity line of credit is a lot like a credit card. You can continuously use it up to your credit limit. One of the best parts of a home equity line of credit is that the interest rate is typically lower than a credit card and the interest paid can be tax deductible (consult your tax advisor about your personal situation). Most home equity loans are simply second mortgages. They have fixed rates with longer terms over a fixed period of time. These loans are amortized - your monthly payment is applied to principal and interest. You receive the amount of money you borrow in one lump sum. For this reason, home equity loans can be ideal for longer-term financial goals. back to top Benefits of Applying for a Home Equity Line of Credit or a Home Equity Loan Home equity lines of credit or home equity loans, you've probably heard about using these types of home equity financing products to meet your financial goals. You can tap into your home's equity and use the money to consolidate your debts*, finance your remodeling projects, pay your children's tuition, buy a new car or a boat, or even take your dream vacation. Tapping into the equity built in your home is a wise choice that allows you to take advantage of lower interest rates. Furthermore, some of Countrywide's line of credit options do not even require an appraisal of your house.
